Startups Without Borders (SWB) is a UK-registered platform and a major ecosystem for migrant and refugee entrepreneurs across Europe and the Middle East.
SWB connects the most ambitious refugee and migrant entrepreneurs with resources to grow their business, while providing investors with an entry-point to under-the-radar startups with disruptive potential.
The SWB team delivers this mainly through events that connect migrant and refugee entrepreneurs with organizations such as Upside Africa and startup ecosystems in Europe and the Middle East. These events usually feature a gathering of investors, incubators, mentors, and corporations with a passion for creating new realities.
The SWB Summit is one of such events held annually, offering a generous mix of marketing, angel investment and entrepreneurship activities and talks as well as inspiring stories from people who had to start from the bottom in entirely new countries.
The first edition of the SWB Summit, with the theme “Building an international team for a global market” was held late November last year in the heart of Cairo. The event had three tracks – Tech to Scale, Female Leadership, and Creative Economies – all topics which are quite familiar to us at Upside Africa.
This year’s Summit would be held on November 14 across three stages in Amsterdam, Cairo and San Francisco. The online summit promises massive attendance that would feature brave leaders, industry pioneers, innovators and rule-breakers. There would be 10 workshops to redesign the future of business, and one immersive, virtual Investors Room.
For us at Upside Africa, this year’s edition of the SWB Summit is very important as our founder and President is one of the 50+ speakers to inspire the millions of viewers from all over the world. But more than that, the summit is a great platform to expose enterprising Africans to valuable resources and networks that would inspire their rise to greatness at the global stage.
