Mercedes AMG Petronas Trackside Fluid Engineer

“On Sunday, she became the first black woman to stand on the podium in Formula 1 history. This is an amazing achievement and I just wanted to acknowledge her for her hard work, positivity, and passion for her job.” This is what Lewis Hamilton said about her. Her name is Stephanie Travers, a Zimbabwean-born Trackside Fluid Engineer for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team. Excellence, passion, and positivity are what enabled her to rise to be the top candidate out of 7000 applicates for the job. She provides Technical support throughout the race weekend to ensure that the F1 cars remain in good health and the team remains compliant with all regulations.

She had a keen interest in chemistry and mathematics at school after it she was determined to continue with this and as a result, she has earned a Masters in Advanced Chemical Engineering. Not only has she sort to be her best, but she also wants to ensure that she can positively influence young women and people of colour to be excellent and can see themselves in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). We should remember that with all our diversity, there is space for everyone to be their best and to make a difference.
